Post-war Sicily. Poverty, political instability, and mafia families tightening their grip on the island’s nine provinces. That’s the world Cosa Nostra throws you into — the upcoming game from designers Pau Batlle and Nico Cardona, published by Too Bad Games and Zacatrus, expected in 2026.
In Cosa Nostra, 2 to 4 players take on the role of consigliere-like leaders at the head of rival families, all competing for control of Sicily. The game is built around an area majority mechanic combined with negotiation: on each turn, players choose either to “Pay” — placing coins on province cards to recruit and move their Capos and Soldiers — or to “Collect” — triggering scoring for the two provinces shown on the card removed from the display.
Victory goes to the first player to reach 40 victory points, but the road is full of obstacles: deals, betrayals, and constant negotiation between players spice up every decision. Resources gathered from provinces can be spent on a variety of optional actions through three types of cards — Contraband, Meeting, and Ally — which offer persistent powers, economic advantages, and even the ability to control opponents’ units.
With a playing time of just 30 to 45 minutes and accessible from age 10+, Cosa Nostra clearly aims for a wide audience without sacrificing tactical depth. A game to keep a close eye on here at mr-boardgames.com!
