How do you play?
Phases of a turn
➡️ Operation Phase:
Play a card from your hand (Advisor or Specialist) to perform actions.
Some cards allow you to replay an operation or chain actions.
You can choose an effect from those offered on the card.
➡️ Disorder Phase:
Check if a Planet exceeds its Stability threshold. If so, place a Disorder token and resolve it.
Options for resolving a Disorder:
Remove or move your Emissaries.
Remove an Institute.
Play a card with a Disorder effect.
➡️ End of Turn Phase:
Discard your played cards by placing them under your deck without changing the order.
Fill your hand up to the authorized limit, determined by your built Institutes.
➡️ Scoring Victory Points:
Use the Senator card to score VPs according to the active Objectives.
➡️ Victory Condition
A player wins if they reach 30 VPs.
If a player exceeds 20 VPs without reaching 30 VPs, they return to 20 VPs at the end of their turn.
Is it good?
Galactic Renaissance is a rather atypical game. The combination of deck building and territory control brings a real freshness to the genre.
You will build a very refined Deck building that you will never shuffle, you will put your cards back under your pile.
Despite a certain strategic depth, the rules remain relatively simple to assimilate.
The game reveals a nice depth, especially in the race for victory points. Planning is essential, because points are scored differently depending on whether you are in the majority, minority or tied on the planets.
The various actions offered by the planets and specialists enrich the possible strategies and ensure good replayability.
The material is of high quality: the components are excellent and the illustrations magnificent.
The “disorder” mechanism on the planets, on the other hand, weighs down the game a little and does not bring any real interest to the games.
The lack of direct conflicts might not appeal to all audiences, especially those looking for more aggressive interactions, although the interaction is strong in the game.
