Regicide: Join forces to defeat the corrupt monarchy!

What's this?

Regicide is a cooperative card game where players team up to confront and overthrow a kingdom ruled by 12 powerful enemies: 4 Jacks, 4 Queens, and 4 Kings. Players take turns playing cards to inflict damage on enemies while taking advantage of the special powers of the colors.

How do you play?

Setup
Stack the enemy cards into a Castle deck (Jacks on Queens, Queens on Kings).
Shuffle the classic cards (Ace to 10) and deal a number of cards based on the number of players.
Reveal the first enemy, which will always be a Jack.

Turn Sequence
Each turn is divided into four phases:

  1. Play a Card: Choose a card from your hand to attack the enemy.

  2. Activate Its Power: The suit of the card triggers a special effect:

    • Hearts: Heals discarded cards by shuffling them back into the deck.

    • Diamonds: Allows drawing new cards.

    • Clubs: Doubles the damage dealt.

    • Spades: Reduces the enemy’s attack.

  3. Deal Damage: The value of the played card is subtracted from the enemy’s health points.

  4. Take the Counterattack: If the enemy is not defeated, it retaliates, forcing players to discard cards to absorb the damage.

The goal is to defeat all 12 successive enemies by optimizing attacks and managing the team’s resources.

Is it good?

Regicide, this little game uses a simple deck of cards to immerse us in an original cooperative experience.

Beneath its simple format—a classic 54-card deck—hides a deep mechanic that requires cooperation and planning.

Card management, risk-taking, and anticipating enemy attacks offer a rich and strategic experience.

Although the rules are simple, mastering the interactions between cards and enemy powers requires practice and thought.

Of course, some luck is inevitable with the cards and the draw; a bad hand can make the game very difficult, even impossible, but it’s the kind of game that often comes up, whether for a quick solo game.

In short, Regicide is a wonderful discovery, a clever and addictive game that proves that you can do a lot with a little.
