Garphill Games continues expanding its Skara Brae universe with the announcement of Skara Brae: Headlands, a new expansion designed once again by Shem Phillips with artwork by Sam Phillips. The game keeps the series’ usual format: 1 to 4 players, with games lasting 45 to 60 minutes, for ages 14 and up.
The theme of this expansion fits perfectly with the spirit of the base game: with the passing of seasons and an ever-changing environment, new opportunities and challenges are never far from reach for the inhabitants of Skara Brae — whether it’s an enormous whale carcass washing ashore, growing seal colonies, or the discovery of new production techniques. Concretely, Headlands introduces new village cards, 2 new resources, 2 new action tiles per player, and 7 new special action tiles. Solo mode hasn’t been forgotten either, with new focus and task cards, plus a new optional drafting ruleset designed specifically for that mode.
With this announcement, Garphill Games confirms its intent to keep evolving Skara Brae over time, offering both new strategic options for multiplayer games and a welcome enrichment for solo players. It remains to be seen how these new resources and tiles will fit into the game’s balance — we’ll be sure to share more as soon as it’s available.
