Publisher Feuerland Spiele has just unveiled the very first expansion for its successful strategy game: Age of Innovation – Zukunft und Vergangenheit (Future and Past). Scheduled for a late 2026 release, this expansion promises to deepen the strategic dilemmas that define the Terra Mystica series.
Time Travel at the Heart of Gameplay
The big news is the introduction of Time Travelers. Players will now have the ability to send emissaries into the future to prepare the ground. These travelers will later return as “Learned Scholars” to boost your development.
Even more bold, the expansion allows you to “turn back the clock”: you can unlock previously used action spaces to use them a second time in the same round—a mechanic that could prove devastating if well-planned.
Abundant New Content
The expansion doesn’t just add new mechanics; it significantly enriches the base game materials:
-
6 New Factions: Discover the River Wardens (Flusswächter), the Libellas, the Aristocrats (Aristokraten), the Urbanists (Urbaneure), the Futurists (Futuristen), and the powerful Mechas.
-
Innovation Saturation: With the addition of 5 new Competencies, the Innovation Board becomes too crowded. In some games, players will face crucial choices and must give up bonuses they previously considered essential.
-
New Modules: The announcement confirms 3 new book actions, 3 palace tiles, 3 round bonuses, 3 invention tiles, and a new city marker.
