The designers of Revive—Helge Meissner, Kristian Amundsen Østby, Kjetil Svendsen, and Anna Wermlund—return with Recall, a deep strategy game focused on engine building and exploration. Designed for 1 to 4 players ages 14 and up, with games lasting approximately 90 minutes, Recall is published by Alion.
Game Mechanics
In Recall, each player leads one of 14 unique tribes, each associated with one of 18 distinct gadgets that significantly influence strategy and opportunities. Each turn, players can either use a key card to activate an action space or perform a “Recall” action to produce resources and retrieve their key cards.
Using a key card activates its own abilities as well as the effects of the chosen action space. Possible actions include populating the land, moving followers, exploring new regions, and building workshops, vaults, or monuments.
Development and Exploration
Throughout the game, players can improve their tribe by acquiring new key cards, upgrading their action boxes, or collecting ability stones and relics. An important part of the game is searching for traces of ancient civilizations at dig sites, allowing players to access abilities and gadgets from ancient tribes and score points.
Strategic Choices and Scoring
Three times during the game, players must choose one of two possible paths, each offering an immediate bonus and influencing an end-game score category. This system encourages strategic decisions that impact long-term development.
Digital Integration
Recall offers an optional digital feature allowing players to archive their tribe at the end of the game. These tribes can thus appear as ancient civilizations in other players’ games, enriching the gaming experience.
Recall promises to be a rich strategic experience, combining exploration, development, and tactical choices, in the same vein as Revive.
