My Father’s Secret is a narrative game of worker placement. You will play as members of a family over 3 generations.
How do you play?
In your turn you will send your characters:
– In town to do different actions and buy resources, knowledge etc.
– In your famous mansion to carry out experiments and unlock knowledge that you can pass on to the next generation.
The originality of the game is its main board which is a booklet of several pages that you will explore according to the progress of your game. You will thus see the destruction or the evolution of certain buildings in the city and the addition of new actions throughout the game according to your choices in the application.
Yes an application is necessary and you will have to use it very regularly. The game is provided with 3 boxes of scenarios with many elements inside (pawns, cards etc.)
Is it good?
I hated my first game, I found the game long, with tons of things to read on the application, I wasn’t ready for that.
I played games with the other scenarios and there it was much better, faster, more fluid, the turns followed one another and seeing the evolution of the board, of the game according to your choices, your secret votes, is very pleasant I admit.
We redid scenarios several times and many things were different, the application remembers the previous games and there is a real evolution of the game. It’s very cool!
In mechanics it is very classic for worker placement but the game is tense in terms of resources, moreover you will keep almost nothing between generations.
So if you like narrative games with worker placement with an evolutionary side and are not afraid to spend long hours reading text on the application I recommend this game.
