Review Verdant

What's this?

A fun puzzle for collecting and caring for indoor plants, combining arranging cards and drawing tokens.

How do you play?

Each turn, a player will select a combination of an adjacent card and token and play them in his house symbolized by his personal playing area in front of him.

Players must form a house visible on a checkerboard 5 cards wide by 3 cards high and place each card adjacent to a card already placed.

When placing Plant Cards and Room Cards, you will try to place plants in places with favorable lighting conditions in order to make them more green.

When the plant has accumulated the necessary amount of Greenness, you immediately remove all the Greenness Tokens of the card and pot the Plant by adding the Bonus Pot Token with the highest value remaining in the reserve.

You can place the Furniture and Pet Tokens inside your House on n Any Room Card showing available space, if you match the colors it’s even better to double the points.

You can also spend Maintenance Tool Tokens (fertilizer, trowel, watering can) in order to maintain your plants.

The game ends when all players have completed a house of 5 x 3 cards for a total of 15 cards (each player will play exactly 13 rounds).

Is it good?

Verdant seems like a game that might be perfect for you if you have a penchant for puzzles, plants, board building, and choice dilemmas.

Just like in the series of Cascadia and Calico games, Verdant offers simple rules that allow a variety of players to have fun.

Personally I find it a little below Cascadia and Calico in terms of gaming pleasure and reflection but it still remains a very good family game that I recommend.
