Scholars of the South Tigris

What's this?

Players accumulate VP by translating scrolls, advancing in various fields of knowledge (such as science and mathematics), influencing the three guilds, and retiring translators after they have completed their services. The game ends when all four Caliph cards have been revealed.

How do you play?

Each turn, a player can choose to “Work” or “Rest”.

1. Work Action:

Players place an Action card on their player board to perform actions. The dice/workers determine their values and colors.
Players can use workers to:
– Increase the value of a die to 6 if the worker and the die are the same color.
– Change the color of a die by using a worker of a different color.

➡️ Translator: Recruit a Translator. Costs between 0 and 4 coins depending on the chosen Room. Dispatch a Translator. Take an immediate bonus and discard the translator.

➡️ Travel: Move the marker around the board according to the value of the dice used for the action. Resolve the effects of the location where the marker stops. Locations can provide resources or allow scrolls to be delivered to the House of Wisdom.

➡️ Translate: Translate a Scroll in the House of Wisdom from its original language to Arabic. Use one or more translators to create a translation chain to Arabic. Place a gold token on each translator used. Translators can retire and provide additional bonuses.

➡️ Research: Advance on the Research tracks to gain benefits and victory points.

2. Resting Action:

When players choose to rest, they recover all their Action cards, return their used dice to their bag, and can receive income based on their position on the Research tracks.

End of Game Conditions:

The game ends after the four Caliph cards are revealed. The player with the most VP wins the game.
