Review The Crew

What's this?

Players take on the role of members of a space crew on a mission to reach a distant planet. To do so, they must complete a series of 50 missions of increasing difficulty. Communication between players is restricted, which adds an additional challenge.

How do you play?

Game progress:

➡️ Preparation:

➡ Each player receives a number of cards defined by the number of players.

➡ A mission is drawn at the beginning of each round. This mission indicates the cards that each player must win to succeed.

➡️ Tricks:

➡ Players take turns playing a face-down card.
➡ The first card played determines the color of the trick.
➡ The following players must play a card of the same color if they have one. Otherwise, they can play any card.
➡ The strongest card of the color played wins the trick.

➡️ Mission objective:

➡ The player who wins the trick must check if the card he won matches one of the cards he must win to succeed in the mission.
➡ If all players have won the required cards, the mission is successful. Otherwise, it is a failure.

➡️ End of game:

The game ends when all players have successfully completed the 50 missions or when a mission is failed.

Is it good?

The Crew offers a unique mix between traditional trick-taking and cooperation, all with strictly limited communication. Players will have to use deduction and anticipation to guess their teammates’ cards and thus complete the missions.

Accessible to all, The Crew also offers great opportunities for strategic thinking. The difficulty increases progressively over the course of the games, guaranteeing an ideal learning curve. The limited communication constraint adds an interesting tactical dimension and promotes the variety of games.
