This weekend, March 8-9, 2025, the final of the Expert Game Award (EGA) 2024 was held, a prestigious award given to board games in the “expert” category by a jury of specialists. Among the four finalists, Shackleton Base, designed by Fabio Lopiano and Nestore Mangone, won the vote and was crowned expert game of the year 2024.
Shackleton Base is a worker placement game where players embody space agencies establishing bases on the Moon. The game stands out for its modularity, offering 35 different combinations thanks to the presence of seven corporations, making each game unique. Players must manage technicians, engineers and scientists to build structures, lead projects for the corporations and improve their reputation as a space agency. The game has been praised for its strategic depth and replay value.
