What's this?
Cellulose: A worker placement game in plant biology invites 1 to 5 players to dive into the heart of a plant cell. There, they will have to compete for limited resources in order to carry out photosynthesis, produce carbohydrates and build the cell wall.
How do you play?
The game takes place in three phases:
1. Sunrise phase
Resource Collection: Players collect water and CO2 based on their markers on the plant board and certain cards.
2. Day phase
Placement of workers: Players take turns placing their worker pawns on the action spaces of the game board. These spaces allow players to:
– Collect resources: Obtain additional water and CO2.
– Activate organelles: Perform photosynthesis to produce carbohydrates or protein synthesis to acquire proteins.
– Acquire carbohydrates: Buy carbohydrates from the central supply.
– Build cell wall segments: Drop carbs to build the cell wall and score points.
3. Night phase
– Resource refresh: Players renew their water and CO2 reserves.
– Preparation for the next day: Players collect their worker tokens and advance the day marker.
The phases of sunrise, day and night repeat until the cell wall is fully constructed. The player with the most victory points at the end of the game wins the game.
In summary, Cellulose offers a thematic and educational gaming experience that combines strategy, resource management and planning.
